Wellness Programs

Wellness is the integration of mind, body and spirit. It is a state of the best possible well-being that allows us to achieve our goals and find meaning and purpose in our lives.  Wellness involves continually learning and making changes to enhance your state of wellness.

Wellness combines seven dimensions of well-being into a quality way of living.   When we balance the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, occupational, spiritual, and environmental aspects of life, or quite simply put, mind and body, we achieve true health and therefore, true wellness.

The modalities, treatments and therapies listed all contribute to attaining wellness.

A big component of wellness programs are the different types of massages that represent the diverse techniques and beliefs of various countries. While most people are focused on Thai, Swedish and shiatsu massages which are customary choices in any wellness center, the traditional Filipino “hilot” is quietly making its way out of the shadows and into the health and wellness limelight.

Hilot is a lost art of Filipino healing.  It is a highly intuitive massage wherein the therapist identifies areas of energy imbalance in the body through touch diagnosis.  This touch diagnosis determines which areas of the body have energy imbalance.

While many popular massages have predetermined sequences of strokes, hilot is customized to the needs of the client.  With hilot, focus is not limited to the muscle or tissue alone. It is energy manipulation, the science of thermal conductivity that must transfer heat from hot to cold.  The full body massage involves a combination of slow moving fingers and hand pressure over various pressure points throughout the back and legs, and relaxing the tension in the head and neck. When this is done properly, the biochemical reaction brings balance once again to the body. Hilots have also been known to reset dislocated and sprained joints such as the knee, ankle, fingers and metacarpal bones.

One of hilot’s distinct features is the use of warm strips of banana leaves laced with virgin coconut oil that are applied on the body before and after a session.  Banana leaves are naturally ionized and determine on a molecular level the bio-energy manifested on the skin and body parts.

Another traditional Filipino therapy, "dagdagay," is a leg and foot massage first popularized in the Mountain Province. Dagdagay is an acupressure treatment for the feet that uses two bamboo or rattan sticks, in place of finger pressure, to stimulate the soles and cleanse and purify the feet. It is a way of accessing the body's entire immune system through the soles of the feet.   It begins with a soothing foot soak on healing herbs in a huge clay vessel and capped with a relaxing herbal foot wrap and massage.

Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. The stones are placed at specific sites on the body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. The heat helps tight muscles release. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. Massage oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment.

It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage that alleviates stress and improves circulation.

Cupping therapy is usually used as part of acupuncture or body work treatment. It has been part of Chinese medicine for over 2,500 years. Cupping therapy is a treatment in which suction is created in a cup. That cup is applied to the body, which then draws the skin up under the cup.

The traditional and most effective method uses fire wherein a flame is used to create suction in the cup. Some choose to use the suction cup method where the suction cup is pumped up without the use of the flame.

Cupping brings fresh blood to the area. It tends to improve circulation. It also helps open up the chest and benefit the lungs and can even benefit menstrual problems and digestive problems. Most commonly, it is used for aches and pains of various types as well as respiratory problems, cough and wheezing. Each cupping session last about 10 to 15 minutes and it can be repeated, once the marks are cleared, until the problem is resolved.

Our physical body turns into a toxic state when it takes in more than it needs and eliminates. Our bodies require a state of balance, which in medical terms is called "homeostasis". This balance is disturbed by the continuous influx of toxins acquired from the food that we eat, the air that we breathe and other substances like alcohol and drugs. It is these toxins that cause many of the diseases and illnesses that afflict us today.  The strain on the main toxin removing organs of our bodies, the liver, kidneys, skin, and bowels, grows with each passing day, leading them to be overworked and overstressed.

Whether we are aware of it or not, detoxification is essential for our continued good health.  A detoxification treatment or program brings together all the elements necessary to get the body's natural toxin fighting capabilities back in top form through one or a combination of the following: a detoxification diet (composed of raw fruits, herbs, enzyme replacement therapies, and juices), exercise, skin cleansing, and bowel cleansing.

Ionic Detoxification Foot Bath

This is a detoxification water foot bath which uses brass and stainless steel electrodes. It is used to cleanse, balance and enhance the bio-energy which is the vital energy force that is stored within the body and utilized by our cells.  Chinese medicine refers to this energy as the "chi".  The foot bath is widely used to increase energy [both physical and mental energy], vitality and stamina.  However, it also helps the body get rid of toxins, chemicals, radiation, pollution and other foreign material trapped in the skin layers that have clogged up the body's systems of elimination.

Ionic detoxification footbaths work by sending a small current that goes in a circuit through the body and generates positively charged ions. The high concentration of the ion field attaches to the negatively charged toxins neutralizing them and the body is then able to discard them through the approximate 2000 pores that are on the bottom of your feet. You can then experience the correct acid-alkaline ph balance as nature intended.

As believed in reflexology, each foot is actually a channel through which your body attempts to cleanse itself of toxic wastes and heavy metals that are building up in many parts of your body. During the foot bath, you will actually see the cleansing process take place as the water interacts with a compound electric current and magnetic field structure.  This results in the cells’ ability to return to a healthy state, and to release waste that has been bonded to them over the years.

During the use of an ionic foot bath the color of the water changes. The various colors can tell you what area the body may be detoxifying.

Black or brown liver
Orange joints
Dark green gallbladder
Yellow green  kidneys/urinary tract
White foam lymph nodes draining
Red flecks blood clot material
Black flecks heavy metals

This detoxification therapeutic procedure is painless and takes about 30 minutes.
